repacted.org 有深入的文章 The Devil On The Cross

GVO Kenyan Bloggers back to “almost” normal life

International Herald Tribune Chinese companies sign US$1.9 billion in agreements with Africa 報導:

The conference was held on the sidelines of a two-day forum attended by dozens of African leaders aimed at boosting ties between the two sides, as China, the world’s fastest growing economy, seeks to expand its access to Africa’s oil and markets.

President Hu Jintao pledged to double China’s aid to Africa from its 2006 level by 2009. Hu promised US$3 billion (€2.4 billion) in loans, US$2 billion (€1.6 billion) in export credits and a US$5 billion (€3.9 billion) fund to encourage Chinese investment in Africa.

“Chinese assistance to Africa is sincere, unselfish and has no strings attached,” Premier Wen Jiabao said at a gathering of Chinese and African entrepreneurs held as part of the conference.

Possibly reacting to criticism that China’s aid to Africa might fuel human rights abuses or corruption, Wen promised to ensure that projects are “open, just, fair and transparent.”

APA-Beijing (China) Beijing has been dressed up in the traditional Chinese red lanterns and billboards featuring typical images of Africa and posters depicting Sino-African cooperation in the run-up to the 3rd Africa-China summit due to open Saturday in Beijing, APA observes here Friday.

Banners carrying words of welcome line major streets, highlighting the summit’s theme of “friendship, peace, development and co-operation.” in English, French and Chinese.

Big posters of different African landscapes, culture, civilisation and people hanged all over Beijing streets and changed its idle routine. “Africa — the land of myth and miracles,” proclaims one poster, featuring an elephant.

Cde Mugabe said the meeting was also coming against the backdrop of moves by African countries to harmonise their economic policies, to enable them to negotiate trade terms with the outside world with greater weight and authority.

He said this was something China supported, unlike the West, which opposed African unity to ensure its continued dominance and exploitation of the continent.

According to China’s assistant foreign minister, Mr Zhai Jun, 1 700 delegates from more than 20 organisations of the United Nations and African regional organisations and more than 1 000 journalists, including about 300 from Africa, have applied to cover the event.

The summit, which also doubles as the Focac’s third ministerial conference, will focus on “friendship, peace, co-operation and development”.

It is a mechanism for collective dialogue and co-operation jointly established by China and Africa to cope with new challenges and facilitate common development. Since the launch of the Focac in 2000, two ministerial conferences have been held in Beijing and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
